OSFA recently celebrated its second anniversary and would once again like to recognize some of the individuals, projects and deployments that support OSFA’s mission. “The mission of OSFA is to educate decision makers in the U.S. Federal government about the advantages of using free and open source software; to encourage the Federal agencies to give equal priority to procuring free and open source software in all of their procurement decisions; and generally provide an effective voice to the U.S. Federal government on behalf of the open source software community, private industry, academia, and other non-profits.”
Categories
Awards will be presented in three categories:
- Individual Contributor
- Contributor from within OSFA : A member of OSFA who has made extraordinary contributions to the organization itself.
- Contributor from the Open Source Community/Government: An individual who has made extraordinary contributions to the promotion of open source adoption in the U.S. Federal government, or a U.S. State or local government. Government employees are eligible to be nominated, provided their nomination is not prohibited by law or department policy.
- Open Source Project: An open source project that has had a positive impact on the U.S. Federal, state, or local government, or on the provision of services by a U.S. government body to the public.
- Open Source Deployment in Government: A U.S. government agency or body that has shown commitment to the use of open source, through policy and/or adoption.
Nominations
Nominations may be submitted on-line here through midnight EDT on September 13, 2011. You must be a member of Open Source for America to make a nomination. However, nominees do not have to be members of OSFA.
Judging
Judges will consist of a number of open source luminaries drawn from the OSFA Technical Steering Committee and Board of Advisors. For more information about winner selection, please see the official rules.
