Efforts to adopt open source at the local and regional level are often distinctly different from Federal efforts. Resources are more limited, and motivated by local politics rather than the White House or Congress. At the same time, local officials are often far more approachable, especially by local open source advocates and vendors.

This working group is for addressing Open Source issues at the state, county, municipal, and other local government level, including:

* Efforts to get cities, counties and states to adopt open source software.
* Open source development efforts in city and state government IT departments.
* Open data at the municipal, state and regional level.
* Pooling experience and resources among city, county, and state IT departments.
