Jono Bacon is an award-winning community manager, author and consultant. He currently works at Canonical Ltd as the Community Manager for Ubuntu, one of the largest Open Source projects in the world, with a diverse community of thousands of contributors. He is a well-respected and acknowledged leader in Open Source, community management and and best practise, the author of highly anticipated Art Of Community by O'Reilly and the founder of the annual Community Leadership Summit; an unconference that brings community managers and leaders together to share strategy and best practice. He is a prolific writer having written 4 books and more than 500 articles published across 15 magazines and online publications. Bacon has also acted as an extensive consultant working with a range of organizations and as a senior Open Source consultant in his previous role at OpenAdvantage; the award-winning UK government funded service advising organizations, government, and educational establishments in how they could utilize Open Source and build strong and vibrant community.



 

 


Josh Berkus

Josh Berkus is best known for his position on the Core Team of the worldwide PostgreSQL open source database project. He has also contributed to numerous other open source projects, including OpenOffice.org, OpenBRR, Bricolage, LedgerSMB, Drizzle and Perl, is on the conference committees for OSCON, OpenSourceWorld and pgCon, and is a assistant treasurer of Software In The Public Interest.

 

Berkus travels the world speaking on both open source community and database topics, and earns his living as CEO of PostgreSQL Experts Inc., where he consults on both database engineering and open source community management. His interest in open source in government includes work with federal and provincial governments of Brazil, the City and County of San Francisco, Jackson County Oregon, and several US Federal agencies. Today, he is particularly focused on Open Data initiatives and hopes to develop a unified standard for government open data.




 


Tim Bray

Tim Bray managed the Oxford English Dictionary project at the University of Waterloo in 1987-1989, co-founded Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq:OTEX) in 1989, launched one of the first public web search engines in 1995, co-invented XML 1.0 and co-edited "Namespaces in XML" between 1996 and 1999, served as a Tim Berners-Lee appointee on the W3C Technical Architecture Group in 2002-2004, and co-chaired the IETF AtomPub Working Group between 2004 and 2007. Currently, he serves as a Distinguished Engineer and Director of Web Technologies at Sun Microsystems and publishes a popular weblog.



 




Gunnar Hellekson

Gunnar Hellekson is the Lead Architect for Red Hat Government, where he and his team work with systems integrators and government agencies to encourage the use of open source software in government. He is a Red Hat Certified Engineer, and the author of an assortment of whitepapers and lengthy emails like “New Approaches to Multilevel Security with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.” "You can see a fat version of me talking about some of this," on the Open Source in Government site. Recently, he helped found Open Source for America.

Prior to joining Red Hat, Gunnar worked as a developer, systems administrator, and IT director for a series of internet businesses. He was also a business and IT consultant to not-for-profit organizations in New York City. During that time, he spearheaded the reform of safety regulations for New York State’s electrical utilities following the tragic death of Jodie Lane.

When he's not spreading the Good News about open source, he is wishing he had a dog.

With a diverse background as both a technical executive and an internationally known leader in open source software, Geir has a deep understanding of both open source and commercial software. Geir began his commercial career as an architectural and product lead at Bloomberg Financial Markets where he developed the company's real-time, multi-platform financial data delivery and presentation system. He is also a member of the board of advisors for WSO2, an open source SOA middleware vendor.

 

In addition to his commercial software experience, Geir is a director of the Apache Software Foundation, currently represents the ASF on the Executive Committee of the Java Community Process, the organization that governs the evolution of the Java platform, and helped found major open source projects, including Apache Geronimo and Apache Harmony, and has been recognized for his work in the Java ecosystem through a Google-O'Reilly Open Source Award.




 

Ean Schuessler

Ean Schuessler is co-founder of Dallas-based digital media consultancy, Brainfood. He is a long-time participant in the Debian project and collaborated in the creation of the Debian Social Contract which inspired the Open Source Definition. Schuessler also served as President of Software in the Public Interest, an umbrella organization that holds property and provides other services for Debian and other Free Software organizations.

Ean has been a critical participant in the Free Java movement from the very beginning. Brainfood released its first commercial Java-based website on Jef Poskanzer's Acme.Serve in 1997, before Sun's Jeeves server hit the market. Ean was also an early maintainer of the Debian Kaffe package and currently is active in the Apache OFBiz effort to create a Free Software ERP system.

Schuessler and fellow employees competed in the 2001 and 2002 seasons of Battlebots, achieving a ranking of 35 in the middle class weight group.

Elizabeth Ziph

Elizabeth Ziph, co-founder of The Linux Box Corporation, has more than 30 years of experience in the Information Technology industry. Most recently she had been senior vice president and director of Information Technology at Franklin Bank in Southfield, Michigan. Prior to joining Franklin Bank, she held the position of associate director of Information Technology Division at the University of Michigan. She has also served as vice president of Information Systems at Comerica Bank. Elizabeth holds an MBA from New York Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree in computer science from The City University of New York.
